Communities understand their priorities, risks and strengths better than anyone. ZARDD therefore works through existing local structures and supports community members to lead decisions that affect their lives.
This approach brings together local knowledge, research and practical support. It strengthens accountability, helps programmes respond to real needs and ensures that skills remain within communities long after a project ends.
Through its four commissions, ZARDD connects livelihoods, health, education, justice and peace so that progress in one area reinforces progress in another.
